Of all the decisions one has to make, choosing the holiday destination is surely one of the most pleasurable. Indeed, the anticipation of new and exotic lands, coupled with the thought that one won't be at work, is enough to put the pleasure levels into overdrive!
However, with holiday costs accounting for a considerable part of the yearly budget, it can be a good idea to engage in some meticulous pre-holiday planning. So, before one gets too carried away dreaming of sunset cocktails on the beach, it is wise to consider a few necessary points. This will not only minimize the stress once one is away, but could also save some precious cash. Firstly, it is good to book early. By checking out flight and accommodation deals up to a year in advance, one can actually save hundreds of pounds. Although there are some great last minute packages to be found, they're not always the most cost-effective choice. Additionally, the low cost airline prices tend to augment as one approaches the departure date. Therefore, if one has a set idea of where and when one wants to go, it's actually better to just book it. It's also worth bearing in mind the time of year one chooses to go. By traveling off-peak, not only will flights and lodgings be less expensive, but so will many of the restaurants and excursions. The next step is to book travel insurance. One should conduct a search of the marketplace so as to allow one to find an appropriate package that covers all specific holiday needs. And, if one is traveling more than a couple of times a year, the experts suggest taking out a multi-trip insurance policy, since this could save one up to £130. However, if one is only going away once, there are some cost-effective deals around, which start from as little as a few pounds. Another top tip, if one has to leave his car at the airport, it is better to reserve a parking space well in advance. In fact, by booking up to three moths before the departure, one can save as much as 15 percent on the cost. This may not sound quite a bit, but the money one will probably stretch to a couple more of those cocktails! Not only that, but you will also have an assured spot. The final consideration is the foreign currency. It's suggested that one should steer clear of exchanging any cash at the airport, since this is costly and one will be charged high commission rates. Thus, the best idea is to change your money before you go. Jill Jack |
